Memorial Day

Happy Memorial Day everyone. I hope you take a few moments today to remember and honor our Veterans that proudly served our Country to ensure our continued freedom. Ironic, isn't it, that we will be doing the same later this week - celebrating the Tanner Family and fondly remembering and sharing memories and pictures of those that can't be with us in Grand Junction.

The weather looks as though it might be a little soggy so you might through an umbrella in your bag while packing. If luck is on our side we'll get to see a few rainbows!!

Only 4 days 'till the Reunion starts - safe travels to everyone - see you in GJ!!

Hugs,
Nancy

Silent Auction @ The Reunion

Do you ever wonder where the Reunion funds come from?? Well, it's from the auction held at every Tanner Family Reunion. Monies raised help to pay for things like postage for all the mailings and to reserve meeting spots (like the park where the reunion is on Saturday), food/drinks, etc. And how does the group get its items for the auction, you ask?? Well, from donations made by family members!! In the past there have been family heirlooms such as a doilie made by Doris Tanner, cookbooks of Tanner family recipes created by Betty Hahn, etc. What will you donate to help fund part of the next Tanner Family Reunion in 2011??

Reunion Month!!

Do you believe it's already May?!?!?! Yes, the reunion is just around the corner now - 26 days to be exact. My how the months have passed so quickly. Spring is upon us here in Southern California with the wild flowers in full bloom. Really looking forward to the local flora and fawna in Grand Junction with their vineyards, orchards, and the rose show that weekend.

Have you made your hotel/campground reservations yet? The hotel will only hold our block/special rate for 13 more days (May 14th). So if you haven't yet booked yours, do it soon!!

May 30-31 - 3rd Annual Palisades Parade of Roses

Just found this info on the web - I know that the dates might make it hard for any of us to attend, but thought it is worth sharing in case anyone might have an interest:

http://www.varaisonvineyards.com/index.htm

"Varaison Vineyards and Winery in cooperation with David Austin Roses has integrated a beautifully landscaped garden into the winery facility at 405 W. First Street, Palisade, CO. David Austin Roses is the world’s only producer of Old English Roses, and is the premier breeder of the English Shrub Rose. In the 1950’s, David Austin embarked on a mission to combine the beautiful flower forms and fragrances of old roses with the wider color ranges of modern roses. The result of this internationally recognized rose is an expression of deep rose
aromas consisting of Myrrh, spices, and the old rose scent.

"The garden consists of a mass planting of 1400 Old English Roses in a scaled replication of the famous Nyman’s Garden of East Sussex, England. This planting at Varaison Gardens makes it the largest single planting of David Austin Roses in North America."

Only 68 Days Left!!

That's right, 68 days to go until May 28th. Have you made your hotel reservation yet? See post below for various hotels and their telephone number.

I just checked www.weather.com to try to get a feel for what we can expect in Grand Junction in late May. The average daytime high is 75, the average nighttime low is 46 degrees (might need a sweater), and the average rainfall is less than 1" - hopefully we'll stay dry that weekend.

More info later - check back often!!

Sightseeing in and around Grand Junction

Wow, there are so many fun and exciting things to do in Grand Junction, and just a short drive will open up many more sightseeing opportunities for the more adventurous!

Colorado wines are making a big splash – and the heart of the Colorado wine industry is right in Grand Junction. You'll find wonderful fruit & vegetable stands, orchards, wineries close by.

With the Rockies as our backdrop, you'll find all kinds of outdoor recreation - hiking, biking, horseback riding, Colorado River rafting expeditions, fishing, and rock climbing. If golf is your game, there are several 18-hole courses right in Grand Junction.

The streets of downtown Grand Junction are filled with art galleries, clothing boutiques, antique shops and a variety of restaurants, and has one of the nation's largest sidewalk sculpture galleries, filled with almost 100 sculptures.

Nearby is Colorado National Monument, Museum of Western Colorado (three different and unique museums, all just a short drive from GJ), Western Colorado Center for the Arts, and Grand Junction Motor Speedway - KART racing for the speed junkies!
